Description: 
This workshop expands on introductory topics to provide attendees with a deeper dive into the fundamentals of R by exploring the tools and features that help with task automation, manipulation, and visualization. Participants should have a basic familiarity with R and RStudio, and have the latest versions installed to follow along with the lessons.


Topics include: 

  • R Markdown
  • For-loops, for repeated tasks such as reading in and combining data from multiple sites
  • Advanced plots, including maps
  • Case studies in connecting R to Survey123 (ArcGIS data forms) and the Ambient Water Quality Monitoring System (AWQMS)

Audience: 
This workshop is intended for tribal professionals managing, assessing, and reporting data for ecological and environmental monitoring projects, with examples from real-world scenarios in air quality, water quality, land management, wildlife management, etc. Participants should have the latest versions of the software installed on an internet-connected computer and ensure firewall or security permissions are in place that will allow for downloading the software and datasets. Instructions for downloading example datasets and additional packages for use during the workshop will be sent one week prior to the start of the workshop.
